Fatal crash near Toquerville

Monday July 22, 2019

On July 21, 2019, at about 2049 hours, a small Chevy pickup truck was traveling eastbound on SR-17. The driver of the pickup was a 17-year-old female with a learner’s permit. There were four other passengers in the truck as well. Near milepost 4 (Toquerville) the driver failed to negotiate the swooping turn that leads into town. The driver struck the right concrete barrier, corrected left, then overcorrected right and struck the barrier again. This impact rolled the vehicle at least once. The truck landed on its wheels and two of the occupants were ejected: an 11-year-old female and a 31-year-old female. Both were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The 11-year-old is expected to survive and will be flown to Primary Children’s Hospital. The 31-year-old female succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital. All other occupants of the vehicle had none-life threatening injuries. Speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation. The 31 year old female was identified as Patricia Holm of Colorado City, AZ. The other occupants will not be identified due to their age. But they were all female ages 10, 11, 13 and 17.
