Wrong-Way Fatal Crash, 2200 North I-15 (Correction)

Salt Lake County- In the early hours of February 1, 2023 at 1:57 AM, UHP Troopers responded to a crash on I-15 northbound near 2200 North. A passenger vehicle traveling the wrong way, southbound in northbound lanes, hit another passenger vehicle head on. The driver of the wrong way vehicle was transported to a local area hospital in life threatening condition and has since been upgraded to serious- non life threatening condition.

The driver of the passenger vehicle that as struck was wearing his seat belt, however, was pronounced deceased on scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor with the wrong way driver.

I-15 northbound was shut down at 2300 North and was opened around 7:00 AM.

Wrong way number for 2022:

UHP 16 and 5 of those fatal

Statewide 25 crashes and 8 of those were fatal with a total of 10 fatalities.

Wrong way numbers 2023:

Statewide 3 and 1 of those fatal

UHP 3 and 1 of those fatal
