Friday February 9, 2024

On Friday, February 9, 2024, at approximately 1:52 am, Davis dispatch put out a wrong-way driver northbound on I-15 in the southbound travel lanes in the Farmington area.  Near milepost 328, a Kaysville police officer responded to I-15 and began to enter I-15 on the Southbound 200 North on-ramp.  He immediately encountered the wrong-way driver traveling northbound  I-15 in the HOV Lane.   The Officer crossed the dirt gore area between the ramp and I-15, crossed all lanes of I-15, and collided with the northbound Tesla in the front fender area stopping the vehicle.  The Officers’ vehicle was heavily damaged in the incident and he was extricated by medical personnel and transported to the hospital with moderate to serious injuries.  The adult male suspect driver was not injured and was taken into custody for DUI. The southbound lanes of I-15 were closed for the investigation. Traffic was diverted off the 200 North off-ramp and back on the on-ramp. Closure estimated until about 4:30.
