Weber State Police Officers hit on I-15

Wednesday December 15, 2021

On December 15, 2021, at approximately 1241 hours, two Weber State University police officers stopped to assist a passenger van that was blocking the HOV lane at 700 South I-15 southbound. The vehicle had crashed and the officers were checking on injuries. While the officers were standing next to the van, a second van was approaching in the HOV lane and did not notice the stopped vehicles in time. The second van swerved into the left emergency lane and missed the police vehicle but struck the fist van that had prevously crashed. That collision flipped the first van 180 degrees into the officers. The officers were thrown into lane three. The second van continued on the left shoulder and hit a third car that was stopped on the shoulder.

Both officers were transported to a local hospital, one with minor injuries and the other with seriuos but not life threatening. No other injuries were reported. All traffic was stopped for approximately 15 minutes. I-15 southbound was diverted onto I-80 westbound for about an hour during the investigation.
