Vernal City Officer Involved Shooting

Sunday April 28, 2024

On April 27, 2024 at approximately 11:20PM officers from the Vernal City Police Department and deputies from the Uinta County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance near 750 North and 400 East.

As officers arrived they found Rookus R Curry, 27, at that location.  Curry engaged the officers with a gun.  The Vernal City officer was shot.  Officers returned gunfire as Curry fled the area.  After a short foot pursuit the suspect was located and taken into custody.  

The Vernal City officer and suspect have been transported to Wasatch Front Hospitals.  The officer is currently listed in stable condition.

This is still an active investigation and further details may be provided as they become available.

The State Bureau of Investigation will be investigating the incident and all media inquiries should be directed to the DPS PIO office at 801-554-5659.
