Utah Highway Patrol Seeks Public Assistance in Identifying Reckless Motorcyclist

Sunday May 21, 2023

[Weber County, UT, May 21, 2023] – The Utah Highway Patrol is reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying a motorcyclist involved in a dangerous incident that took place on Sunday, May 21, 2023. A Weber County Trooper conducted a traffic stop on SR-167 (Trappers Loop). When they initiated the stop on a sport bike traveling northbound at an alarming rate of speed, with initial indications suggesting speeds exceeding 100 mph.

Despite the troopers’ attempt to stop the motorcycle, the rider fled the scene, and the troopers did not pursue it. However, a short time later, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter spotted the bike still heading northbound near milepost 8. The rider then executed a U-turn on Trappers Loop and proceeded southbound toward I-84, operating at extreme speeds.

The DPS helicopter diligently followed the motorcyclist as they continued westbound on I-84 and exited on Riverdale Rd. The pursuit extended further as the rider entered I-15 Southbound, exhibiting a flagrant disregard for public safety while weaving through traffic at speeds exceeding 120 mph. The rider continued westbound on I-80 toward the Tooele County line, with the rider eventually taking SR-201 eastbound.

Throughout this dangerous sequence of events, the DPS helicopter maintained visual contact with the motorcycle until it disappeared from sight near Lake Park and Day Burry off of 5600 West.

Due to the reckless speeds and dangerous driving exhibited during this incident, the Utah Highway Patrol is urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in identifying the driver involved. The motorcycle in question is a white-trimmed BMW S1000RR, and the rider is believed to be male.

If you possess any information that could assist the ongoing investigation into this matter, please promptly contact the Utah Highway Patrol dispatch at 801-887-3800. Your cooperation and support are crucial in ensuring the apprehension of the individual responsible for these dangerous actions.
