Trooper Struck by Suspected Impaired Driver

Friday January 1, 2021

Riverdale, UT- On January 1, 2021, about 6:30am Trooper Brandon Mortensen was in his marked UHP patrol car on the shoulder of I-15 northbound near milepost 340 conducting speed enforcement. A Honda Civic drifted out of its lane and struck the left rear of Mortensen’s patrol car. Mortensen was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and then released. Weber County Sheriff’s office and Roy PD are investigating the crash and subsequent investigation for DUI by the male driver of the Civic.
This incident highlights the importance of impaired driver enforcement. Over the holiday UHP troopers removed 37 suspected impaired drivers from Utah roadways.
