Tooele County I-80 Fatal Crash (Updated)

Wednesday June 23, 2021

On Tuesday June 22, 2021, at about 8:11 pm, a silver Ford Excursion SUV pulling a 29ft. bumper pull travel trailer was traveling eastbound on I-80 near milepost 78. It appears that the travel trailer began to fishtail and sideswiped the trailer of an eastbound commercial vehicle. The SUV and travel trailer began to whip violently and rotated into the center median where it rolled onto its top. The SUV had a total of 10 occupants consisting of 2 adults (husband and wife) and 8 children. The driver of the SUV (husband) received fatal injuries and died on scene. The wife and 8 children received various injuries but none were life threatening. The wife and 8 children were transported to SLC area hospitals for evaluation. MCIT and SBI are assisting with the investigation. Advocates are assisting the family at the hospitals. Lane closures were in place for the investigation and clean up but have since been lifted.
