The Utah Department of Public Safety Announces New Division Director for Bureau of Criminal Identification
SALT LAKE CITY – (February 5, 2024) – The Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jason Ricks as the new Division Director for the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI). With an impressive background spanning over 22 years in law enforcement and public safety, Director Ricks started his new role today, February 5th, 2024.
In 1998, Mr. Ricks began his distinguished career with the Utah Highway Patrol, where he served in various capacities, including patrol, motor squad, and the Department of Public Safety’s dive team. His expertise expanded to dignitary protection, notably serving on the Governor’s Executive Protection detail under Governors Huntsman, Herbert, and Cox. Director Ricks also served as Commissioner Anderson’s Executive Officer and held various leadership roles, including the rank of Captain, before retiring in 2021.
Post-retirement, Mr. Ricks ventured into the private sector, assuming the role of safety manager. In this capacity, he excelled in overseeing compliance with the Utah Department of Transportation, training new CDL drivers, and ensuring job site safety.
Originally from Missoula, Montana, Director Ricks spent a significant portion of his upbringing in Nephi, Utah. Currently, he resides in Davis County with his wife and four children. He enjoys scuba diving, snow skiing, outdoor activities, and family travel.
The Department of Public Safety welcomes Jason Ricks as the BCI Director and looks forward to his leadership and contributions in this new role. His wealth of experience in public safety, law enforcement, and the private sector makes him a valuable addition to the department and our state.
