Serious crash on I-84. (Updated 1:45 pm)
Update: The crash scene was cleared at 11:00 am.
Injury update: of the 23 individuals who reported injuries, most have been treated and released. Only one individual appears to have life-threatening injuries. The rest range from moderate to more serious (non-life-threatening)
The Garland Armory is still the staging location for the involved parties as they work with Salt Lake Express and the Red Cross for lodging and further transportation to their destination.
Update; the bus was in route from Boise, Idaho to Salt Lake City, Ut.
On Monday, December 12, 2022, at about 4:30 AM, a Salt Lake express bus with 33 occupants, including the driver, was traveling eastbound on I-84 near my post 36. This location is approximately 5 to 7 miles west of Tremonton, Utah. Weather in this area had been snowing, and road conditions were slick. As the bus was changing lanes to the left, and the driver lost control. The bus slid off the road to the right and overturned onto its side off of the right shoulder. More than 20 occupants have been transported from the scene with varying degrees of injury. Approximately 18 are reporting minor to moderate injuries. Five have been reported with more serious to critical injuries and 10 with no injuries. If traveling through the area, use caution and watch for emergency crews. Lane restrictions may be in place during the accident investigation. Patient has been transported to multiple hospitals in northern Utah. The non-injured parties have been transported to the Garland armory as investigators work on logistics for further transportation and investigation.
