Serious Crash in Salt Lake County

Sunday January 16, 2022

On 1/16/2022 at about 2:51 AM, Troopers in Salt Lake County responded to a serious crash on northbound I-215 West at about 600 S, near the I-80 interchange. When they arrived, they found a passenger car, occupied by two individuals, had been driving southbound in the northbound lanes and collided head on with a semi-truck.  The semi became fully engulfed in fire and the passenger vehicle spun off the freeway to the right shoulder.

Both occupants in the semi were transported to an area hospital in good condition.  Neither occupant of the passenger car were restrained at the time of the crash.  Both occupants of the passenger vehicle were transported to an area hospital, the driver in fair condition and the passenger in extremely critical condition.  Impairment is being investigated as a possible cause of the crash.  SBI, MCIT, and UHP are all coordinating efforts in the investigation of this crash.  Northbound I-215 W was shut down for the investigation of the crash and all traffic was diverted off SR-201 and California Avenue.
