Semi rollover and load spill in on SR-201

Wednesday April 26, 2023

On April 26, 2023, at 11:14 am, a flatbed semi truck hauling six large tires entered SR-201 eastbound from northbound Mountain View Corridor. These tires are used at the copper mine and weigh approximately 10,000 pounds a piece. As the semi-truck entered the on-ramp, it struck the left concrete barrier. The semi-truck overturned, and the trailer rested on the other side of the barrier. All six tires came loose from the trailer and were scattered. Two of the tires came to a rest on eastbound SR-201, where they blocked the median and lane one until responding units and the Incident Management Team could (push and pull) them out of traffic. Speed is being investigated as a factor. Multiple heavy wreckers were dispatched to include a HazMat clean-up crew as approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled. The northbound Mountain View Corridor ramp was closed for the duration. The driver denied medical but
had Alpha injuries and was taken to a local hospital at a later time by Troopers.
