Santaquin Officer Killed On Traffic Stop.

Santaquin, UT — On May 5, 2024 at 5:56 AM,  UHP Richfield Office received a 911 call about an individual standing on the back of a semi trailer as it was traveling Northbound.  A Santaquin Officer and a UHP Trooper located the semi in the area of I-15 Mile 244 around 6:27 AM and conducted a traffic stop. 

During the  traffic stop the driver of the semi fled and drove northbound a short distance, turned around the wrong way, then struck the Santquin Officer, his vehicle, and a UHP patrol vehicle. The Santaquin Officer died on scene after being struck by the semi.  

The semi driver fled on foot and it is believed he has stolen multiple vehicles and is still at large and is possibly armed and dangerous.  

Santaquin City has lifted the Shelter In Place as it is believed the suspect is out of the area.

It is believed the suspect is in a stolen White Ford F150 truck with Utah Plate 2D7TR.  This vehicle was reported stolen out of Sanpete County.

The suspect who is still at large is identified as Michael Aaron Jayne 3/19/1982.  Should citizens see the suspect or the stolen vehicle, call 911 and do not approach him.
