San Juan County Double Fatal.

On Thursday, September 14, 2023, at about 12:47 am, a white Ford Taurus was Northbound on SR-191 near milepost 92 in San Juan County. This is just south of the Needles overlook Exit in the beginning of a construction zone. A blue Nissan Sentra was Southbound in the same area. For a reason still being investigated, one of the cars crossed over center. The two vehicles struck each other head-on. A Penske commercial vehicle traveling southbound came into the scene and struck the Nissan. Both single occupants in the sedans sustained fatal injuries (83-year-old male/Ford, 59-year-old female/Nissan). The Driver of the Penske truck was not injured and walked away. Investigators are still trying to determine which vehicle crossed over center. SR-191 was closed in both directions for about 3 hours during the investigation.
