Salt Lake County Auto Pedestrian Fatal (Updated 7/30/21 12:30)

UPDATE 7/30/21 12:30 A.M.
The pedestrian has been identified and family has been notified. The individual was a 17 year old male. We are still investigating why he was on the freeway and how he was hit.

On July 29, at 0044 hours, dispatch received calls of a possible body in the right travel lane of I-15 southbound near 900 North in Salt Lake City.  Medical arrived and confirmed a person had been struck and was deceased.  Troopers arrived and I-15 was closed at 1000 North.  No vehicles stopped or have reported striking an individual in the area.  The individual is male and no identification has been located.  MCIT and SBI were called to assist with investigation efforts and the Medical Examiner responded for the body.  Efforts to utilize a fingerprint scanner are being used in conjunction with the medical examiner investigation to help with identification. If the public has information to help us identify them they can contact UHP dispatch.
