Police Agencies to Participate in Distracted Driving Enforcement This Weekend

The covert operation will take place in Salt Lake and Utah counties.

What:
Law enforcement officers across Salt Lake and Utah Counties will utilize an unmarked van with spotters sitting inside looking for violations of Utah’s distracted driving laws. Violations will be called out to nearby marked units who will take appropriate enforcement action to educate or cite. Police agencies statewide will participate in over 100 additional shifts focused on distracted driving enforcement throughout the weekend.  
 
When:
Thursday, April 7, 2022. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 
Where:
A briefing will take place at the UHP Section Four Office in Murray at 10 a.m.
(5681 S. Commerce Drive).

This enforcement event will involve approximately 100 officers from 20 different statewide agencies, and the media is invited to attend the briefing. On-camera interviews with leadership and ride alongs with officers will be available following the briefing.
 
Who:
Participating agencies include Tooele County SO, Carbon County SO, Logan City PD, Price City PD, Tooele City PD, Lone Peak PD, Lindon PD, Orem PD, UT County SO, Provo PD, West Jordan PD, Unified Police Department, Cottonwood Heights PD, West Valley City PD, Riverton PD, South Salt Lake PD, Salt Lake City PD, Utah Highway Patrol, Santaquin PD. 
 
 
Visuals: 

  • Multiple department patrol vehicles and officers in uniform. Ride-alongs are available upon request. Officers will stage for a group photo.
  • UHP’s Instagram account will feature a virtual ride-along with Corporal Wahlberg. @utahhighwaypatrol
  • UHP Leadership will be available for on-camera interviews.
