Police Agencies throughout Salt Lake & Utah Counties to Participate in Covert Distracted Driving Enforcement
April is Distracted Driving awareness month. It is up to us all to eliminate distracted driving. |
What: Law Enforcement Officers across Salt Lake & Utah Counties will utilize unmarked vans with spotters looking for violations of Utah’s distracted driving laws. Violations will be called out to nearby marked units that will take appropriate enforcement action to educate or cite violators. Over 22 police agencies statewide will participate in over 140 additional shifts focused on distracted driving enforcement from April 3rd -April 17th The media are invited to attend the briefing. On-camera interviews with leadership and ride-alongs with officers will be available following the briefing. When: Monday, April 10th, 2023. 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Where: A briefing will occur at the UHP Section Six Office in Orem at 9:00 a.m. (763 N 1370 W, Orem, UT 84057) Who: Lt. Ryan Van Fleet, Utah Highway Patrol Section Six Commander Capt.Scott Smalley, Salt Lake City Police Department Sgt. Cameron Roden, Utah Highway Patrol PIO Trooper Luis Santisteban, UHP (Spanish Speaker) Visuals: Multiple department patrol vehicles and officers in uniform. Officers will stage for a group photo. UHP’s Instagram account will feature a virtual ride-along with Corporal Wahlberg. @utahhighwaypatrol Distracted Driving Infographic Cards (Distributed to drivers at each traffic stop) UHP & SLCPD Leadership will be available for on-camera interviews.
