Multiple Crashes along I-15 in Salt Lake County, connected to a DUI Driver

Saturday January 9, 2021

At approximately 7:38 pm on January 9th, Salt Lake Dispatch received a call on a hit and run involving a white F350 Ford pickup truck. The hit and run occurred in the area of 8900 South, I-15 northbound. More drivers reported the Ford Pickup driving recklessly, then exited at 3300 South. A UHP Trooper encountered the pickup at 3300 South where 3 additional vehicles where hit by the Ford pickup. The Ford pickup turned around and continued South on I-15 where 2 additional cars were hit between 9000 South and 10600 South. At this point, the Ford pickup sustained a flat tire. The driver exited the truck and Troopers apprehended the suspect on the off ramp at 10600 South where he was walking. The suspect, an 18 year old male, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and multiple additional moving violations. Two motorists were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries and one police car sustained damage.
