Millard County crash with serious injuries

Wednesday January 12, 2022

On 01/11/2022 at approximately 4:50 pm, a white Ford Explorer was traveling westbound on 1000 south in Delta. The Explorer came upon a railroad crossing that had a stop sign for a traffic device. The Explorer failed to yield to an on-coming southbound train. The train struck the Explorer’s passenger side and pushed it off of the road to the south where it rolled and came to rest upside down. The driver, an off duty Millard County Deputy, was able to self-extricate and was flown by helicopter to an area hospital. The passenger, his 14 year old daughter, was extricated by first responders and was also airlifted. The Utah Highway Patrol will be conducting the crash investigation at the request of the Millard County Sheriff. The injuries suffered by both were serious, but we are hopeful they will survive. MCIT and SBI have been notified and are assisting as needed. —
