Media Advisory: Crash Survivor Celebrates Milestone with UHP as Officers Prepare for DUI Enforcement

As UHP prepares for Halloween impaired driving enforcement, Sarah Frei joins troopers to share her story and meet the officer who helped her the day she was hit by an impaired driver. 

What:  SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 28, 2022) – In 2021, Halloween weekend was an extremely deadly time on Utah roads.  Over the 2021 Holiday weekend, there were 8 fatal crashes resulting in 10 fatalities.  Four of those crashes occurred on Halloween itself. Out of those four crashes, all of them were directly related to alcohol or drug impairment.  As we begin the 2022 Halloween weekend, Troopers are here to remind Utahns not to drive impaired.  The Utah Highway Patrol will be conducting multiple DUI enforcement blitzes around the state in an effort not to repeat last year. Law enforcement can not do this alone. We must all work together to save lives this Halloween.  The UHP would like to encourage, if alcohol is part of your festivities, to plan ahead to ensure that you have a sober ride home.  Whether it is a designated driver, taxi, or ride share, there in no excuse for driving impaired. No one knows the serious effects of an impaired driving crash better than Sarah Frei.  Sarah was hit by a drunk driver on June 20, 2020, in Logan Canyon and sustained serious injuries. Come hear Sarah share her story as she celebrates the two-year anniversary of her return home from a 75-day hospital stay. Sarah will also meet the Troopers who assisted her on that day in 2020. Two DUI blitzes will be held tonight in Salt Lake County and Box Elder/Weber Counties.  Sarah will attend the Box Elder/Weber County blitz, but the media is invited to attend at either location.
