Thursday September 28, 2023

On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at approximately 7:20 pm, a red Ford F150 pickup was traveling southbound on SR-89 near milepost 74. The pickup began passing a southbound grey Kenworth semi as a red Ford Edge SUV was traveling northbound. The pickup did not have sufficient distance to complete the pass and impacted the northbound Edge head-on in the northbound lane. The impact forced the vehicles partially into the path of the semi. The semi impacted the vehicles and left the roadway to the left.

The Ford pickup had 2 occupants. The driver of the pickup was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The passenger of the pickup was transported with moderate injuries.

The Ford Edge had 4 occupants. The driver of the SUV was transported by ground with moderate injuries. The adult female front passenger and a second row 10-year-old male passenger were both airlifted from the scene in critical condition. A 15-year-old femal from the second row was also transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Kenworth semi had two occupants. The driver was not injured but the passenger was transported with minor to moderate injuries.

The roadway was closed in both directions for approximately 3 hours.

We will add photo’s when they are available.
