Information regarding the DUI arrest of Mantua City Police Chief

Wednesday January 30, 2019

At about 5 pm on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019, troopers in Cache County observed a Mantua City Police vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed without its emergency lights or siren activated. As troopers approached the speeding vehicle, they observed it struggling to maintain its lane. A traffic stop was initiated at about mile marker 18 on SR-91, whereby troopers identified the single occupant driver of the patrol vehicle to be Mantua City Police Chief Shane Zilles. The Chief cooperated with troopers in performing Standard Field Sobriety Tests. Troopers determined the Chief to be in violation of the DUI-Drug Statute and subsequently placed him under arrest. He continued to cooperate with Troopers and consented to a blood draw. Following the blood draw, he was taken to the hospital due to concern for a medical condition. Troopers cited and released Chief Zilles at the hospital, which is common practice for individuals placed under arrest that require medical testing and observation.

Please direct any additional inquiries into the matter to the UHP PIO at (801) 554-5659
