Information on German Citizen Involved in Hwy 89 Motorcycle Crash
A group of 8 motorcyclists were traveling east on SR-89. One of the riders remembered that he forgot a bag at the local McDonald’s restaurant so he caught up to the front riders and let them know that he was turning back. He told them he would catch up after he picked up his bag. The one rider stopped to wait for traffic to pass when three other riders stopped with him some of them in the travel lane. The driver of a white GMC truck did not see the riders stop in time. He applied his brakes but was unable to avoid a collision. The GMC truck hit at least two of the motorcycles, which in-turn, hit two more of the motorcycles. One rider, Ingreborg Treitinger, a 62 year old female from Los Angles, CA, died on scene. Another, Brigit Stein, 50 year old female from Germany, died at the Kane County Hospital. A third rider, was transported from the Kane County hospital by air to Dixie Regional Medical Center in critical but stable condition. The group was headed from Los Angles, California to Sturgis, South Dakota.
