I-215W NB Flyover Truck Crash

Thursday June 24, 2021

On June 24, 2021, at approximately 3:35PM, an RC Willey semi truck was traveling northbound on I-215W near I-80. On the ramp to I-80 westbound, the semi veered to the left, striking and then going over, and onto, the concrete barrier. The semi slid along the top of the concrete barrier for about 50 yards before coming to rest. The tractor of the semi was hanging over the edge of the structure, approximately 50 feet above traffic. The ramp from I215W NB to I80 WB was closed as well as the ramp from EB I-80 to NB I215W and the ramp from WB I-80 to I-215W SB which included the Redwood Road on ramp to I-80/I-215. As of 1641 hours, the semi has been lifted off the wall and all the ramps have been re-opened with the exception of the NB I-215W to I-80 WB ramp. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. The trailer was empty and both occupants were uninjured.
