I-15 Fatal Crash in Draper

Tuesday January 18, 2022

On Tuesday January 18, 2022, at approximately 02:56 hrs, we received reports of a vehicle fire on the northbound I-15 Bangerter Highway On-Ramp. It was later discovered that the driver of the vehicle was deceased inside. It appears the vehicle was traveling on the northbound I-15 Bangerter Off-Ramp at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to negotiate the curve at the top of the off-ramp and traveled through the gore area, through all lanes of Bangerter proper, overturned, and collided with the concrete barrier on the northbound I-15 Bangerter On-Ramp. The vehicle came to rest halfway down the northbound I-15 Bangerter On-Ramp and caught fire. SBI and MCIT have been notified. The medical examiner’s office is assisting with the identification of the single occupant. Westbound traffic for Bangerter Highway was closed at 150 East. Eastbound Bangerter traffic was being diverted to I-15 southbound. This closure of the Bangerter structure over I-15 was in place for approximately 4-5 hours.
