At 20:02 DPS Dispatch in Box Elder received a 911 call from the passenger in a Range Rover where the driver had been shot while driving westbound on I-84 near milepost 21. The passenger had also been injured and was transported to Bear River Valley Hospital. That witness/victim described the suspect vehicle as a silver Jetta with out of state plates. An “Attempt to Locate” (ATL broadcast) was put out for Idaho and Nevada. A passing EMT was able to clarify that the driver of the Range Rover was beyond help and was deceased. Troopers and Box Elder Deputies secured scene and looked for the suspect and suspect’s vehicle. SBI was called out. Shortly after, Idaho State Police attempted to stop a silver Jetta that fit the suspect description. The vehicle fled from ISP and eventually crashed in a canal, the suspect/driver is believed to have fled. ISP requested the DPS helicopter assist them and it has been sent to an area outside Burley, Idaho to search for the suspect. UDOT helped us with arrow boards and barrels to close the outside lane from 22:00 until approximately 04:00.
Moments ago, ISP put out the following Tweet warning Cassia County residents that they are seeking an armed and dangerous homicide suspect out of Utah.
SBI and the State Crime Lab have both suspect and victim vehicles and are processing them for evidence.
