Initial Description:
SR-191 at Mile Post 82, approximately 10 miles North of Monticello. A Ford F-350 4 door work truck flat bed pulling a cargo box trailer, was southbound in a construction zone. There were 4 occupants in the F-350. It was traveling over the posted construction zone speed. A Peterbuilt Semi truck, with one occupant/driver, pulling a 53 box trailer was stopped in traffic due to the construction zone. This closure had a running a pilot car performing intermittent traffic movement. The F-350’s driver didn’t see that the Peterbuilt was stopped in the lane with its airbrakes locked. The driver of the F-350 tried to go around to the left, but struck the Semi’s box trailer. The passenger side of the F-350 was severally damaged. It spun around the front of the semi striking the front end, and spinning out of control down the shoulder coming to a rest. The front right passenger had an arm cut off and was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition. The right rear passenger died on impact. The driver and left rear passenger were taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The semi’s driver was uninjured. Along with speeding, impairment is suspected as another contributing factor in the crash.
