Initial Description:
On April 28, 2020 at approximately 21:23 hours a gray KIA Optima occupied by a 30 year old female driver was traveling northbound on I-15 in the number two lane, at approximately milepost 129. The KIA approached a Freightliner Semi pulling a 53′ box trailer in the same lane and struck the rear of the box trailer. Due to the force of the impact, the driver of the KIA sustained immediate fatal injuries and the KIA became lodged underneath the box trailer, near the rear axle. The 43 year old male driver of the Freightliner pulled to the right shoulder of the road way with the KIA lodge beneath it. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured. Evidence on scene and witnesses who observed the KIA before the crash, indicate extreme speed and possible impairment may have contributed to the collision. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the collision. The deceased driver is Shantel S Cozart, age 30, of Las Vegas.
