Fatal crash on SR-18 MM 5 just outside of St. George

Tuesday March 31, 2020

DPS Incident Notification 7820 (Crash – Fatal / Initial Information / Sent: 03-31-2020  21:49)

Section: 12 // District: B

Date: 03-31-2020

Time: 18:20

Location: SR-18

Mile Post: 5

Travel Direction: North

Inv. Agency: UHP

Initial Description:

On March 31, at about 1820 hours, a white Infinity G35 was traveling northbound on SR-18. The driver lost control of the vehicle near milepost 5 and swerved off the highway to the left going across the southbound lanes. As the vehicle slid off the highway and into the dirt, it rolled more than once and came to rest on its roof. The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle and there were no other vehicles involved in the crash. The driver was extricated from the vehicle by medical personnel and we believe the male driver was wearing a seatbelt. Witnesses stated that the Infinity had passed them at a very high rate of speed. The speed limit is posted 55 miles-per-hour. Based on evidence at the crash scene, alcohol and speed both appear to be factors.
