On June 13, 2019, at about 0130 hours, there were reports of horses on the freeway on I-15 near milepost 20. Troopers began to respond to the area to locate the horses. However, before we could arrive, a black Hyundai Veloster traveling northbound struck a black horse in the left lane near milepost 21. This is near the town of Leeds. The horse struck the front driver side of the Hyundai. This caused major damage to the driver side compartment of the vehicle. After impact, the vehicle continued north about another half mile and struck the median cable barrier. The vehicle came to rest against the cable barrier just before the Leeds exit (Exit 22). The driver was alone and had no passengers and it appears the driver was killed on impact. UDOT assisted with traffic control. The left lane of traffic was closed for about 2-hours. All lanes are open at this time.
