Family’s Story Shows Seat Belts Can Make a Life-Saving Difference

Tuesday November 13, 2018

Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement will increase during Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

No one ever leaves home thinking they’ll be involved in a crash. But anything can happen at any time, and the best way to help make sure you’ll get home safely is to buckle up every single time you get in your vehicle.

There’s no better example of the unpredictability of the road and the ability of seat belts to save lives than the crash in which the Anderson family was involved. Dramatic dash cam footage from a semi truck that was also involved in the three-vehicle crash shows how quickly something can happen. Minutes before the crash, Shantel Anderson’s son had reminded her to buckle up. Utah Highway Patrol troopers who responded to the crash have said the outcome would have been very different if Shantel had not been buckled up.

The Anderson family will share their story at a media availability to kick off increased seat belt enforcement over the Thanksgiving weekend, working more than 275 shifts to look for unbuckled motorists. The goal of the increased enforcement is to save lives and help make sure everyone gets home safely, not just over the Thanksgiving weekend, but every day.
