Double Fatal Crash at Mile Post 12 on SR68 (Updated)
On Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 1334 hours, a Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on SR 68 at MM 12. At the same time, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound in the area. The Hyundai went off the roadway to the right and then overcorrected to the left. The Hyundai then crossed the southbound travel lane entering the northbound lane where it was then T-boned by a Jeep on the passenger side.
The Hyundai was occupied by a female driver and a young male passenger. Life-saving measures were attempted for the female driver before she succumbed to her injuries. The young male passenger died on impact.
The Jeep was occupied by a male and female who were both transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Speed is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash.
