Department of Public Safety Appoints Darin J. Bushman as New Division Director for the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
SALT LAKE CITY – (August 29, 2023) – The Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the appointment of Darin J. Bushman as the new Division Director for the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. With an impressive background in leadership, public service, and diverse industries, Mr. Bushman brings a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly contribute to the ongoing success and development of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) sector in Utah.
Mr. Bushman’s journey into public service has been marked by his commitment to making a difference in his community. Growing up in Marysvale, Utah, he developed a strong work ethic through involvement in various businesses. He graduated from Utah State University in Logan with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Director Bushman’s journey is marked by a distinguished career that spans various industries and leadership roles. With 28 years of experience in roles ranging from Engineer to company President, his expertise encompasses high-level executive management, marketing, quality management, product development, and more. His most recent public service role was as a Piute County Commissioner since January 2013, where he demonstrated his ability to wear multiple hats and excel in a dynamic environment.
One of Mr. Bushman’s most notable achievements is his role in advocating for and transforming Utah’s EMS landscape. As an EMT and Advanced EMT instructor, he gained a deep understanding of EMS service delivery and identified the needs of small and mid-sized agencies. He spearheaded the first Rural Legislative EMS Summit in October 2019. This event laid the groundwork for essential legislative changes, including restoring the EMS grant fund, restructuring EMS as an essential service, and increased accountability for providing EMS services.

His extensive background and dedication to this cause make him uniquely qualified to lead the Emergency Medical Services Bureau toward becoming a world-class and cost-effective statewide system.
Darin Bushman received the REMSDAU EMS Advocate of the Year Award for 2023. An accomplishment that couldn’t be done without the great support of his wife, Keri, and their three children.
