Critical Injury Crash on I-15 near Beaver, UT

Wednesday July 24, 2019

DPS Incident Notification 7263 (Crash – Other / Initial Information / Sent: 07-24-2019 20:41)

Section: 11 // District: B

Date: 07-24-2019

Time: 17:19

Location: I-15

Mile Post: 125

Travel Direction: North

Inv. Agency: UHP

Initial Description:
At approximately 17:19 hours, a maroon Chevrolet Tahoe was northbound on I-15 near milepost 125. The area was raining with standing water in spots. The driver lost control of the vehicle and slid off the road into the median. The vehicle then rolled over 1 time. The 26 year old female driver and her 6 year old female passenger were not restrained. The 6 year old was partially ejected. She suffered critical injuries. She was unconscious upon Troopers arrival and has not regained consciousness. Both occupants were transported to Beaver Valley Hospital by ambulance. The 6 year old was then transported to Primary Children Hospital via medical helicopter. The driver sustained minor injuries. Speed above the posted limit doesn’t seem to be a factor, however tire tread depth was minimal on the rear tires. The combination of tire conditions, wet roadway and vehicle speed were all contributing factors in the driver losing control. The lack of seat belt and an appropriate child restraint device is a major factor for the severity of injury sustained by the child.
