Crash results in a fatality near Payson

Tuesday February 15, 2022

On Tuesday Feb 15, 2022 at about 10:56 am, a single-unit dump truck was northbound on I-15 approaching the 800 South Payson structure in the right lane. The right front steer tire blew out which caused the truck to swerve into the guardrail on the right road edge. The truck continued off the right side of the roadway into the large gore area between the 248 NB onramp and main flow. As the truck went into the gore area, it rolled onto the driver’s side and ejected the load of landscaping boulders it was hauling. The crash ruptured a fuel tank and caused the cab of the truck to catch fire. The adult male driver (only occupant) was killed in the crash.

The northbound right lane and on-ramp from 800 South were closed during the investigation.
