On August 7, 2021 at approximately 1:11 am, a silver Toyota pickup was traveling wrong-way (southbound in the northbound lanes) on the I-15 collector near 1700 South.  A gray Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound in the left lane when a head on collision occurred with the wrong-way pickup.  The 26 year old female driver of the Toyota sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.  A 20 year old female passenger was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver and passenger of the Toyota pickup were assisted out of the vehicle by a passerby.  The Toyota pickup driver stole the passerby’s pickup and was quickly apprehended by responding troopers.  The other passenger of the pickup fled on foot and returned later to the scene.  Impairment is being investigated as the cause of the collision. The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) and UHP Major Crash Investigation Team (MCIT) are assisting with the investigation.  Family was notified on scene as they were in the area when the collision occurred. The I-15 collector was closed for approximately 5 hours for scene investigation.
