Chase in Southern Utah Leads to Kidnapping Charges for Driver
A man was arrested after leading UHP Troopers on a short chase on I-15 in southern Utah. The chase ultimately ended after the SUV collided with a semi-truck.
At around 3:30 p.m. Utah Highway Patrol Troopers received reports of a suspicious vehicle traveling southbound on I-15 near Cedar City. A female passenger inside the black Chevy Tahoe appeared to be trying to wave down traffic for help. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued.
36-year-old Luis Carlos Martinez-Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail. He faces charges that include driving with a measurable amount of a controlled substance, reckless driving, evading police, two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of kidnap.
The other occupants of the SUV, a woman and infant, declined medical transport and were released after being interviewed. The semi-truck driver was unharmed.
