UPDATE AT 4:07 P.M.
Eastbound 201 is now open.
Traffic was shut down westbound on SR-201 at the intersection of 7200 West with a 4-vehicle crash, including two semis, which caught fire in the crash. Eastbound traffic on 201 opened around 4 p.m. with all lanes opening around 7:45 p.m.
This crash happened around 1 p.m.
Three people have been transported in critical condition. Traffic is shut down both directions on SR 201.
This incident is under investigation, but here’s what we know right now:
At 1:03 p.m., a white pickup truck was traveling recklessly north on 7200 West and struck multiple vehicles prior to entering SR-201. (Unified Police is handling that incident).
Once the white pickup truck entered SR-201 it ran the red light. A semi was traveling west on SR-201 and proceeded to travel through the intersection as the traffic light was green. To avoid collision, the semi attempted to swerve to the right but was still struck by the white pickup truck. This motion caused the semi to strike a dump truck hauling a pup trailer head-on. This dump truck was stationary at a red light southbound on 7200 West.
The two semi trucks immediately caught fire. After the white pickup truck struck the semi, it proceeded to travel through the intersection and t-boned a Subaru that was also stopped at the red light next to the dump truck.
Also a thank you to UDOT, Unified Fire Authority, West Valley City Fire and Salt Lake County Health Department for your response on this incident.
