Box Elder County Fatal. (Updated)

Tuesday March 21, 2023

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at about 9:10 am, a 2005 Mazda 3 driven by a 22-year-old male was southbound on SR-38 near milepost 18. A 2001 Ford F-250 driven by a 28-year-old male was northbound at the same location. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles. At some point, in the middle of the two-lane road, the vehicles collided in a side-swipe type collision. The driver-side doors of the Mazda were peeled off from the crash. The Ford swerved to the right and onto the shoulder and overcorrected back to the left. The pickup rolled, partially ejecting the driver. The driver of the Ford sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Mazda did not receive any injuries. This crash is still currently under investigation to determine what caused the collision. SR-38 was closed for several hours and reopened at about 1:30 pm.
