Protecting Utah

Joint Counterterrorism Awareness Workshop Series

Thursday November 30, 2017

Counter Terrorism efforts are in full swing in Utah thanks to a federal grant. The Utah Department of Public Safety, Salt Lake County, the District Attorney, and Salt Lake County Emergency Management teamed together to bring a series of workshops to our region. The workshops support planning, training, and exercises to counter possible terrorist incidents that may occur. The National Counter Terrorism Center, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation sponsored the event.

The Department of Public Safety Commissioner Keith Squires told a packed room of firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and police from all levels of government and jurisdictions, that it is our positive collaboration and partnerships that help Utah to be resilient. “We set our egos aside, and work together.” said Commissioner Squires. He also reminded everyone that tragic incidents occurring across the country can happen here in Utah.

District Attorney Sim Gill, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, and Special Agent in Charge Eric Barnhart of the Federal Bureau of Investigation joined Commissioner Keith Squires to welcome the group to the workshop series.
