Wrong-Way Vehicle Causes Fatal Crash on I-80 at about 7600 West (MM 111)

Friday October 23, 2020

On October 23, 2020, at approximately 0930 hours, the driver of a Dodge Neon was traveling west on I-80 approaching 8000 W.  For an unknown reason, it turned around and started traveling east in the westbound travel lanes.  The driver of a westbound Subaru Crosstrek swerved to miss the wrong-way vehicle and the two collided in a side-swipe manner causing the westbound vehicle to roll several times.  The driver of the wrong-way vehicle sustained minor injuries that were treated on scene. The westbound vehicle driver, identified as a 29 year old South Jordan man, was properly restrained, but still sustained fatal injuries. During the investigation, traffic on the westbound side was able to pass in the right-hand emergency lane with minimal backup. Eastbound traffic was not impacted. Troopers are investigating impairment as a contributing factor in the wrong-way driver’s poor decision to make a U-turn into oncoming traffic.

The deceased driver is 29 year-old, Todd D Neely, of South Jordan.
