Additional Details: Fatal Crash I-80 MM 81

Tuesday September 3, 2019

A 2000 Chevy Blazer and a Freightliner tractor with trailer were traveling westbound on I-80 at approximately mile post 81. The Blazer was traveling at approximately 35 mph due to a separated tire. The Freightliner tractor trailer was traveling at approximately 75 mph. The Freightliner ran into the rear of the slower moving Blazer, causing the Blazer to spun off the right shoulder of the roadway where it rolled. While rolling, the driver was ejected and fatally injured. The Freightliner swerved into the median and also rolled. The Freightliner driver’s injuries were minor and treated on scene.  The deceased driver is Kristina L Martinez, age 53, of Tooele.
