MEDIA ADVISORY: Asst. Chief Dennis Burt Vincent – End of Watch Oct. 26, 2018

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce that our friend and brother, Brigham City Assistant Police Chief and Brigham City Emergency Manager Dennis Burt Vincent 53 years old of Brigham City, Utah passed away on Friday, October 26th after a week in the University of Utah Hospital.

On Thursday Oct 18 immediately after taking his annual physical fitness test, Assistant Chief Dennis Vincent collapsed after suffering what was later diagnosed as a catastrophic aneurysm and CVA (stroke). On a critical scale of 1 to 10 the aneurysm was at a 10. He was immediately taken to the Brigham City Community Hospital and then air lifted to the University of Utah Hospital’s Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) where he underwent brain surgery to stop the bleeding. During the surgery, they discovered a second aneurysm. Unfortunately, Chief Vincent did not recover and passed away on October 26, 2018.

Dennis unofficially started his career in law enforcement when he was a youth riding his bicycle around Brigham City issuing his own tickets for offenses he spotted. He eventually applied and was hired by the Willard Police Department in January 1990 and in June of that year he began working for Perry Police Dept. part time and during the next four years he worked for both Departments and advanced to the position of Willard City Police Chief.

In May 1994 he was hired by the Brigham City Police Department and has worked there since. He promoted through the ranks to Assistant Police Chief/ Brigham City Emergency Manager. He was the Department Public Information Officer and was also a Deputy Medical Examiner investigator for the Utah Department of Health Medical Examiner’s Office. He was heavily involved for many years in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and participated annually in the Shop with a Cop program.
