Box Elder County Fatal Crash (Updated 6/19/24)

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 5:44 am, Box Elder Dispatch received a call from a passerby reporting a vehicle in a ditch near milepost 20 on I-84. When troopers arrived at 6:04, they located a silver Toyota Sequoia with extensive damage near milepost 18. The SUV was down an embankment and not clearly visible from the roadway. The driver had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash and rollover. The driver and only occupant was deceased. Further investigation revealed the vehicle involved had been stolen out of Weber County around midnight. The deceased 22-year-old male driver matched the description of the suspect that reportedly stole it. Troopers are still investigating the contributors to the crash and will coordinate with applicable agencies for the stolen vehicle.

Lane closures were in effect on I-84 for about 3 hours during the investigation.
