Wrong way fatal crash on I-80 in Salt Lake County

Thursday December 14, 2023

on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at approximately 11:24 PM, we received reports of a wrong-way vehicle going eastbound in the westbound lanes on I-80 near 700 East.
Near milepost 130 on I-80 in Parley’s canyon, the vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma, crashed into a second Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and an Honda Element SUV, which were both traveling westbound.
The adult male driver of the wrong-way Tacoma sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased by EMS on scene. The truck body of the second Tacoma pickup traveling westbound separated from the frame, trapping the driver inside. He sustained significant injuries and had to be extricated and transported to a local hospital. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was also transported. Both appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
Westbound traffic was shut down and diverted back eastbound. Estimated closure time was approximately two hours.
