Governor Cox, DPS Commissioner Anderson, and Local Leaders Celebrate the Ribbon Cutting of the Department of Public Safety’s Southern Aero Bureau

Tuesday April 11, 2023

To mark the establishment of the Utah Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Aero Bureau in southern Utah, Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox, DPS Commissioner Jess L. Anderson, and local leaders met at the hangar for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The southern Aero Bureau started operations in August 2022, following authorization from the Utah Legislature for the procurement of a new helicopter for DPS. The Legislature recognized the value in bringing a helicopter and crew with both rescue and law enforcement capabilities to the southern part of the state. The Aero Bureau has been able to respond to search and rescue operations in a shorter period of time, helping to improve outcomes for those needing rescue and reduce risks for local search and rescue team members. Local law enforcement agencies have also benefited from the Aero Bureau’s proximity as it provides an aerial resource to which they previously only had limited access.
