First Donor Tribute Plaque Unveiled at Fair Park Driver License Office

On Wednesday, February 1st, the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Driver License Division (DLD) and DonorConnect joined with the Morgas and Navarro family to unveil the first of several tribute plaques, which honor members of Utah’s transplant community.

This Tribute Plaque features Priscilla Morgas who was a donor and saved 5 lives by selecting yes to donation.  Priscilla gave the biggest gift one can give, “The Gift of Yes” via the organ donation process.

DLD is partnering with DonorConnect to bring more awareness by installing similar plaques across the state. 

The two organizations hope the plaques will inspire more Utahns to say “YES” to becoming organ, eye and tissue donors when obtaining their driver licenses. 

All plaques honor either a deceased donor, living donor or recipient from the community in which the plaques are installed.

“Saying “YES” is a priceless gift and can save or enhance the lives of dozens of people,” said Tracy Schmidt, executive director, and president of DonorConnect.  “Regardless of age, medical conditions or health history, we hope everyone will choose to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor,” he said.

There are more than 105,000 people waiting for a life-saving organ transplants in the United States, including more than 800 in Utah.  Utahns can register to give the gift of “YES” at their local DLD office or at DonorConnect.life.

DonorConnect has provided DLD staff with t-shirts featuring “The Gift of Yes” messaging to remind patrons of the opportunity to say yes to organ, eye and tissue donation.
