A Remarkable Milestone: Celebrating 50 Years of Service

Tuesday May 15, 2018

The world has changed tremendously in the last 50 years. But for the Utah Department of Public Safety, one pillar of consistency has been Leila Billingsley. DPS Administration and peers recently honored the Utah Highway Patrol Secretary for her five decades of dedicated service.

Starting in 1968, at age 19, Leila first worked at the Bureau of Criminal Identification, then as a dispatcher in the Communications Division, but has spent the bulk of her time at the Utah Highway Patrol’s Section 4 office in Salt Lake City.

Leila says the biggest difference between now and her early years at DPS is technology, noting that before each Trooper had a computer, she was tasked with typing up their reports, “There used to be a lot more typing!” said Billingsley.  She also said given the chance, she’d do it all over again, “I’ve enjoyed it the whole time. The camaraderie with the guys. It’s been special to watch a few go from Trooper all the way up to Colonel and get to know them along the way.”

We want to express our deep gratitude to Leila Billingsley for her 50 years of exemplary service.
