UHP joins UDOT, the Utah Pofessional Towing Alliance, and the Honoring Heros Association to share tips and experiences from working traffic scenes.

What: (Salt Lake City) Every year, far too many of our #Roadside Heroes are struck and killed while working to clear traffic scenes.  Nationally, over the last three years (2019-2021), there have been 155 fatal struck-by incidents. In 2022 there have been 41 fatalities so far.  These deaths are totally preventable if we all do our part to make these incidents safe.  Every state in the US has some type of Move Over law, but still, there are too many motorists that are either unaware of the law or ignore it.     During Crash Responder Safety Week, the Utah Highway Patrol and its partners will highlight the dangers and hazards that responders face on a daily basis while working to clear traffic incidents. These scenes can be risky, but these professions work to implement best practices and techniques to remove crashes and roadside incidents as quickly as possible.  Traffic Incident Management Training (TIMS) helps crews reduce risks posed to those involved or who have to work these events, but they need everyone’s help to ensure that crash responders go home safely each night.   Please join us as professionals from law enforcement, transportation, and the towing industry share experiences, tips, and best practices with motorists and ensure that every #Roadside Heroe makes it home safely.  Media is a valuable resource to help us share this message, especially as we move into winter months when crashes increase, and road conditions become slick.
