Press Release

Memorial Holiday Weekend 2022, Click It or Ticket, and 100 Deadliest Days.

Tuesday May 31, 2022

The Utah Highway Patrol conducted several enforcement projects throughout the entire state this Memorial weekend. From the southern end of the state or Monticello Troopers teamed up with Navajo PD and the San Juan County Sheriff’s office for maximum enforcement and interdiction in the area. Four Troopers were apart of this project, as a result they had 148 contact in 48 hours. Of the 148 contacts, 115 were speed, 17 seatbelt violations, 2 crashes and 11 equipment violations.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement

Troopers from Section 15 Commercial Vehicles, held an enforcement project in St. George. A crew did a total of 49 Inspections, they located 6 violations that placed drivers out of service and 71 violations that required to be fixed.

As a total they placed 3 drivers out of service and 1 vehicle. One commercial vehicle was stopped and cited for going 103 mph 70 a zone.

DUI Enforcement

47 Troopers across the state participated in our DUI enforcement Friday night, this weekend Troopers stopped and made 53 DUI arrest.

Click It or Ticket

This week kicked off several Border to Border events around the state. It’s a great opportunity that UHP
Troopers have to join efforts with our Law Enforcement partners in neighboring states. We are all trying to achieve the same goals of safe driving speeds and seat belt usage. Section 1 Troopers are pictured above alongside Idaho State Police and Cassias County S.O.

100 Deadliest Days

The start of this time of year brings lots of road miles traveled along with increased tourism to the State of Utah. Our Troopers and Dispatchers will be working hard through the summer holidays in an effort to keep your families safe. Extra speed/seatbelt/dui shifts will be available throughout the state over the next 100 days, our efforts this summer will help with the goal to flatten the curve on our upward trend in
fatalities this year.

Memorial Weekend Statewide Stats

In the first weekend of 100 deadliest days we saw four UHP fatalities and six statewide fatalities. We can’t stress enough the importance of slowing down, driving sober, buckling up, putting the distractions down and driving alert and level headed.
